The German Missions in Pakistan are changing the way to apply for employment visa and introduce the Consular Services Portal.
The changes at a glance:
The system will guide you as to which documents to present and in which order to bring them to the Embassy. Please keep to this order carefully, as this will speed up the final application at the Embassy and enable more applicants to present their applications.
| Topic | Key Points / Details |
|---|---|
| Purpose / Scope | Information about visas for working in Germany, vocational training, job seeking, research, self-employment, freelance work, voluntary service, au-pair, and recognition of foreign qualifications. |
| New application system | Germany now uses a Consular Services Portal for most work visa applications. Applicants must upload scanned documents, fill out information, and receive pre-approval before scheduling an in-person appointment. |
| Which visas via portal | Applicants with a confirmed contract or vocational training program (or recognized qualifications) can apply via the portal. |
| Visas not yet via portal | Research visas, self-employment, voluntary service are still in the traditional process (i.e. book appointment, bring documents). |
| Islamabad jurisdiction | The Embassy in Islamabad handles applications (via portal) for Islamabad Capital Territory, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Punjab. |
| Karachi jurisdiction | The Consulate General in Karachi still uses the previous system (appointments). Applicants from Sindh and Balochistan apply via Karachi. |
| Special cases (§ 81a, Blue Card, family members) | • Applicants with § 81a pre-approval can apply with priority. • For EU Blue Card, § 81a, or research visas, family members can be included. • Portal doesn’t yet allow direct registration for accompanying family — instructions are given to include them manually at appointment stage. |
| Visa categories / checklists | The page outlines various categories and provides or links to further detail / checklists for: • EU Blue Card • Employment for skilled workers with university degree • Employment for skilled workers with vocational qualification • Vocational training • Opportunity Card (jobseeking) • Research • Self-employment, freelancing • Voluntary service • Au-pair • Employment for specialty cook • Recognition of foreign qualification |
